Back in the year 1889, the First Congress of the Second Socialist International selected May First as a day for international celebration of the workers. May first was chosen in commemoration of the Haymarket Massacre which occurred in Chicago in 1886. Most of the countries around the globe recognize this international holiday. They fought for an 8 hour working shift, equal payment for men and women and most of all they fought against child labor. Just think how many of you (who now comfortably play computer games) would be forced to work under extreme conditions (most child labor was used in mine shafts) a hundred years ago. Why can you enjoy your youth today? Its because people in the past have stood up against several wrongs. It is therefore only right, that we (our international community here on Abandonia) remember this day.
