When it comes to fast food Burger King is having it my way. If you’re taking games, then McDonald’s makes me say “I’m loving it!” Of course, I’ve never seen a Burger King branded computer game.
McDonald Land is a Mario-style, side-scrolling, platform puzzle game, allowing you free movement in both directions, with no time limits. You jump from tree to tree, block to block, spring high into the sky and collect “arches” and “game cards.” Collect enough cards and you can move on to the next area.
For a game that one would think is designed for kids, it is not as easy as I would have expected. I’d like to think I have normal skills – not an expert by any stretch – representative of your average player. I managed to get to the second area – “Birdie’s Birdhouse” – but not without some serious concentration.
The key controls may have a small amount to do with it. You control your kid with the “Q” and “A” for vertical moves, and “O” and “P” for horizontal moves. The space bar is used for picking up and throwing things.
The graphics are crisp and clean, and they still look very good. The music is standard fare for a platform game. The game play is simple enough, but variety is added such as water areas, slippery ice, weight sensitive blocks, and more.
McDonald Land is a fun game for the whole family. The price is right and there are 0 calories. “Would like some fries with that?”
